SCANNER

Scanner is a hand-held solution for on-site participation tracking and verification. Scanner will be included in a pre-configured version with Dr. Scheduler and also will be available separately.

Scanner initially will be developed to be compatible with the following card readers:

• TokenWorks CardTool^TM
• TokenWorks DigiSwipe^TM

We also plan for Scanner to be compatible with the following card readers at a future time:

• Scanning Devices MagReader
• Semtek iSwipe^TM

Originally, we had planned on having two products: one exclusively for use with Dr. Scheduler and a second, more generic (and simpler) version of the software for stand-alone use. The more we worked with these two as separate projects, the more we realized that they had a lot more in common than they had distinctions. As such, during our final code review during Winter 2007, Scanner will get a complete re-write to reflect this change in philosophy.

We currently are reviewing the details of a beta agreement. There probably will be a fee involved as we expect to be able to provide our beta testers with some hardware as well as an upgrade to the final release of the software. As soon as we finalize the details of the beta agreement, we will post them here.

For those seeking to build their own PDA-based solutions, we have had success with the following vendors for our card readers:

• TokenWorks CardTool^TM and DigiSwipe^TM (for Handspring® Visor® PDAs and PDAs with a CompactFlash slot)
• Scanning Devices 2500 series reader (for palm® PDAs)
• Semtek iSwipe^TM (for the Compaq and HP iPAQ PDAs mentioned above)
• Symbol Technologies (for their own SPT PDAs)

• Features already implemented:
  • Integration with Dr. Scheduler Platinum.
  • Simplified version, Scanner LE, for access control auditing only.
• Features currently being implemented:
  • Simplified configuration screen.
  • Support for full line of Scanning Devices readers (we are having some difficulty with a particular model).
  • We actually are in the process of completely re-writing the scanner software.
  • Merge Dr. Scheduler Scanner and Scanner LE projects into a common codebase.
  • Create version for handhelds running Pocket PCs running Microsoft Windows Mobile (e.g. iPAQ Pocket PC)
