GETTING STARTED

In order to climb at M-Rock you need to do one of two things: 1.) Take the belay class and learn how to belay and tie the figure 8, follow through knot or 2.) Come in and demonstrate the B.U.S. belay technique along with the figure 8 follow through knot. These things can only be done during climbing hours.

Belay Class* ($5)
This is an introductory class is for beginner and novice climbers.

  • Figure-eight follow through knot and commands
  • B.U.S. belay technique
  • Acknowledge and agree to Wall policies and procedures
  • Sign release and waiver forms
  • Update climbing status on MCard
  • Receive complimentary day pass (good during Daily Use hours on the day of the class)
  • Introduction to concepts of bouldering and spotting
  • Climbing equipment is included in the $5 fee

Belay Test* ($5)
This 20 minute class is for experienced climbers who can demonstrate the B.U.S. belay technique.

  • Demonstrate the B.U.S. belay technique, figure-eight follow-through, and commands
  • Acknowledge and agree to Wall policies and procedures
  • Sign release and waiver forms
  • Update climbing status on MCard
  • Receive free equipment rental and day pass (good during Daily Use hours on the day of the class)
  • Introduction to concepts of bouldering and spotting

*All belay proficiencies expired June 30, 2009. All climbers will need to take the proficiency class or test again to be granted access to M-Rock. Proficiency is valid till June 30, 2009.
