Intramural Sports
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can participate in Intramural Sports?
All currently-enrolled students with valid M-cards and those who have purchased a Department of Recreational Sports Membership, a Continuing Student Pass, or an Intramural Sports Program Pass shall be eligible to participate in the Intramural Sports Program. The Intramural Sports Program Pass is available only for select sports during the Spring/Summer semester.
How do I register my team?
An entry form must be completed for each team and each sport. There are a number of sports that will follow an Instant Scheduling process. For these sports, entries will only be taken on that day between the hours of 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Other sports have a longer time period during which entries are accepted. Please see the entry form of the sport in which you are interested to see which type of scheduling applies. All team fees must be paid at the time of registration. Contact information for both a manager and an assistant manager must be listed on the entry form.
If there is inclement weather, will my game be cancelled?
All game schedules can be found on the Hotline, 763-0050. Please do not call the Intramural Sports Building for your schedule or cancellation questions. All cancellations will be updated on the hotline as soon as the decision is made. You may also check the IM homepage for updates throughout the day. Usually, cancellations are not made prior to 3:30pm on a given day due to weather concerns.
What if I do not have enough people to form a full team?
Any individuals that would like to participate but do not have a team may post their information on the Free Agent Board which can be accessed at www.recsports.umich.edu/intramurals/freeagents. Free agents also are encouraged to attend the manager's meeting as another means of finding a team.
What if I cannot find my M-card?
If a player on your team does not have their M-card, they must show a piece of photo ID to the Intramural Sports Supervisor on location, and a Forgotten ID Form will be issued. The player must show their M-card at the IMSB Main Office the following business day, or the team will be issued a forfeit for that game.
How do I become an official?
Officials are always needed for the following sports: Soccer, Broomball, Softball, Flag Football, Hockey, Basketball, Innertube Water Polo, Volleyball, and Mini-soccer. Please contact Nicole Green at 763-3562 for more information.
When do I have to submit my final roster?
Your roster will be formed by having each player check in with the game official, show their M-card, and have their name printed on the roster. This process is done during each regular season game, and all players must play in one regular-season game to be eligible for playoffs. In tournament events, roster additions may be made through the quarter-final games.
How will I know if my team has qualified for the playoffs?
All teams that meet the Sportsmanship requirements will be eligible to participate in the playoffs tournament, regardless of their win/loss record. To meet the sportsmanship requirements, a team must earn 31 Sportsmanship points during the regular season for most sports. A team will not be eligible if it has received a sportsmanship rating of zero or less, or if it has forfeited more than one game during the regular season. Those teams winning 50% or more of their games will be scheduled in the "A" playoffs, while all other teams shall be scheduled in the "B" playoffs.
What is the All-Year Point Championship?
The All-Year Point Championship is awarded to one team in each division that displays excellence in Achievement, Sportsmanship, and Participation. A team earns points in each sport in which it participates. Winning teams will be honored in April at the Intramural Sports Program Awards Banquet. For further information regarding the Intramural Sports Program, please see the 2006-2007 Manager's Manual.
