Lauren Davies

I'm Lauren, an LSA sophomore majoring in PoliSci and PitE. After graduation, I hope to travel to Africa through the Peace Corps. My favorite outdoor activities include scuba diving (I learned through Outdoor Adventures!), snowboarding, hiking, rafting, and learning about my surroundings. Recently, I have found myself dying to try caving! Jello scares me (Jangelaphobia), along with the texture and sound of newspaper, but I can't seem to get enough of the mountains or the sky, music, campfires, sewing, or cooking yummy vegan food for my roommate (Missy!) and myself.

Lauren Kline

Hi! I am a sophomore in the Residential College studying French for now. I'm interested
in foreign languages because I dream of traveling the world one day, and am going to
begin learning Tibetan because I've always been interested in the Himalayas. While
growing up in northern Michigan, I spent a lot of time outdoors with my family hiking,
backpacking, canoeing, and skiing, so I am very excited to be part of the OA program and
meet such awesome people! I also enjoy running, photography, and writing. The most exciting place I've backpacked so far is either Isle
Royale or the Kalalau trail in Hawaii.

Joe Halso

Joe Halso is a third year student looking to complete dual degrees in English and Program in the Environment. He has at least one thing in common with tigers, although they are not his favorite animal. He loves blue bird days, falling snow, rapping quietly, big fires, free ice cream, making music, and quoting those funnier than himself.  Bouldering, skiing, running and setting up tents inside the Outdoor Adventures center all tickle his outdoor fancy. If he was to win a paper plate award with Outdoor Adventures it would probably be for sweeping. It was once suggested that Joe has as much charm as a bracelet full of dangly things, and so much game sense that he could open his own bank, qualities he knows will only grow through his work with Outdoor Adventures.

Patrick Morris

My name is Patrick Morris, and I'm from Hartland, Michigan. I'm a junior in the School of
Public Policy and have a small obsession with attending law school. My NOLS course in the
North Cascades of Washington got me hooked on backpacking and mountaineering. I enjoy
reading, writing, learning new things, talking about politics, running, biking, taking
naps, and playing with really cute kittens. Specifically, I enjoy road tripping out west
with cars that run on vegetable oil, which I spent a part of last summer doing.

Abby
Abby Merritt
Abby is a senior majoring in Art History. A transfer student from Saint Louis University in Spain, she is very slowly learning where things are in her "hometown" (since she never really went into Ann Arbor before having to take classes in it). She has backpacked in Baja California Sur and the Porcupine Mountains, and her ocean exploits include sailing and sea kayaking. In her free time she makes lists of things to do and ignores them until her free time is over. She also enjoys attempting to read books in foreign languages. Her plans for the future include graduate school and co-owning ferrets with her Verlobter.
Neale

Neale Batra
Neale joins the OA crew as an incoming freshman at the Residential College.  Growing up in Ann Arbor he partook in as much of the outdoors world as possible and loves to climb rock and ice, mountain bike, whitewater kayak, canoe, sail, backpack, ski, and go mountaineering.  He enjoys teaching youth and yearns to become an outdoor adventure educator someday.
In his other life he is a random, yet thoughtful fellow who has never worn blue jeans.  He has played the violin for 10 years and loves classical music as well as Celtic music jam sessions.

Sarah Sprague

Sarah is a Program in the Environment and Communications double major. After taking a semester off to work for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, she is leisurely making her way through senior year round two. A North Carolina to California to Michigan transplant, Sarah has had the opportunity to camp, climb, hike, swim, bike, and kayak, all over the country. She spent her Junior year abroad in Switzerland, and can?t wait to start traveling again after graduation. Sweet potatoes, goat cheese, fresh blueberries, and scones of all varieties are some of her favorite foods. Her life goals include serving in the Peace Corps, backyard beekeeping, and seeing a Baobab tree. She also loves bluegrass music and speaking French.

Allison

Allison Horky

Allison is a senior majoring in sociology.  She hopes to go to a Social Work Grad program and might be at Michigan next year if she gets in (wish her luck!).  Being a native of Northern Michigan, she loves being outdoors in general - the beach, backpacking, learning to climb, hiking, etc.  She went to Pictured Rocks over fall break and has Wilderness First Responder Certification.  She is really excited to be a part of the staff and hopes that she can pair her love of the outdoors with a passion for social justice.

Emily Emily Sallen

Hi my name  is Emily and I am a senior studying Brain, Behavior and Cognitive Science. I work both at Outdoor Adventures and the Challenge Program , so I basically love Rec Sports. My parents took my sister and me hiking/camping in the Smokies when I was six and I’ve been hooked to the outdoor world ever since. As far as outdoor activities I enjoy hiking, canoeing, kayaking, biking, swimming, snowboarding and of course climbing trees. I also really love studying the biology of the brain and its relationship to human behavior, reading anything and everything, drawing, music and meeting new people.

Suzy Suzy Ogawa

Suzy is a fifth year Political Science/International Studies/Pre-Med student at the University of Michigan. Her academic interests/pursuits include international justice, international public health, and medicine. Suzy’s region of interest is Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as, Southeast Asia/East Asia. Suzy also enjoys spending time being adventurous in and out of doors including hiking, trail running, running, backpacking, kayaking, mountain biking, yoga, tae bo, and soccer. Suzy loves to sing, read, write and learn new languages (currently French). Suzy spent her summer taking classes, doing political science research and working for OA. She will be in DC this fall with the Michigan in Washington program, interning at an organization related to public/global health. Suzy would love to visit Iceland.

Jamie Jamie Wasielewski
Jamie is a fifth year senior who majored in the Program in the Environment but now dedicates her remaining credits to dance, ceramics, and community art. She grew up on the shores of Lake Erie and has been camping and sailing since she was just a little tike. After a lengthy and complicated run in with the sport of gymnastics, she got into backpacking, kayaking, scuba diving, sailing, xc skiing, and playing in the mud. Jamie has been working at OA since 2007 and simply loves it. She still likes to jump around in dance studios and her favorite word is subterfuge.
Andrea Andrea Moehle
Hello! I'm a senior going into Elementary Education - majoring in Science and minoring in English. I'm from Northville, Michigan and grew up camping, bike riding, playing soccer and running. I love being outside - spend my summers driving around in pick up trucks doing emergency home repair in the Appalachian Mountains. My favorite outdoor pursuits include distance running, backpacking, rope swings, camping, and anything involving mountains.

Missy Neuman

Hey! My name is Missy and I am a sophomore majoring in global health (specifically Africa) with a pre-med focus. Someday I hope to travel a lot and use my medical skills to help people in need. I got involved with OA after going on the Grand Canyon Backpacking Spring Break Trip! I am addicted to medical dramas, love to hibernate for long periods of time, and think that rain is the best type of weather. My favorite outdoor activities include backpacking, camping, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, biking, and climbing. One of my many life goals is to backpack in every US National Park!  So far Yosemite is my favorite!

Kristina Frost Kristina Frost
Kristina is in her sixth year of college, and still counting. Originally a Sports Medicine major at Eastern Michigan University, she transferred to UM's School of Art & Design in Fall of 2006, where she focuses her studies in outdoor equipment and apparel design in hopes of designing for Patagonia or REI. She fell in love with backpacking in May of 2008 when she took a field sketching course through school that went to Big Bend National Park, Texas. Kristina also enjoys kayaking, whitewater rafting, woodworking, and photography.

Adam F

Adam Fisher
Adam is an Ann Arbor townie and is now a junior at UM.  He enjoys doing almost anything outdoors including camping, canoeing, backpacking, climbing, caving, running, etc...  He is also a member of the UM bass fishing team you didn't know existed.  His other interests include politics, music, friends, and supporting wolverine football... no
matter what.

Chris M

Chris Mullins
Hey!!! I’m Chris. I’m a 3rd year LS&A student pursuing a General Studies degree with a concentration in Advertising. I enjoy, video games, facebooking, vacations to places that have beaches/sunshine, food eating contests, shiny things, hanging out with friends,  gumball machines, talking in fake accents, picnics, my brother Mike,  my co-workers,  girls, hobbies, ping-pong, and rainbow sprinkles on cake batter ice cream. I love climbing and working at MRock so you should come down and see me sometime and maybe I will show you my mad climbing skills which I attribute completely to my four arms.

Mike Mullins
Mike Mullins, brother of Chris Mullins--4th year IOE Major, Mathematics Minor from Ann Arbor, Second year OA staff member. Mike loves darts, pool, video games, leap frog, dodge ball, cooking, badminton or bocce ball, and pretty much anything else involving competition. A fun loving character who tends to lighten up the mood whenever possible, but is sure to always get it done. Mike loves to climb and a close second to that is teaching others how to climb.

Sean

Sean Smith
Sean Smith is a sophomore pursuing dual degrees in Theater Performance (BTA), Psychology and a Native American Studies minor. He has kept active through the years in competitive tennis, swim and cross country teams, while always finding time for his first love- music. He plays cello, piano, guitar and sings for UM’s Amazin’ Blue a cappella. He joined Outdoor Adventures in Fall 2007 to become a better climber, and to gain more experience in the great outdoors. Sean hopes to move to New York after graduation and “make it” as an actor; his backup plan involves backpacking across the world, living cheaply and making the most of every moment.

Justin Bonebrake

'Sup? I'm Justin Bonebrake, a Junior Political Science Major in LSA Honors with aspirations toward Law School. I grew up in Muskegon, MI but as of recently relocated to a more permanent residence in Ann Arbor because it's such a sweet place to be. I love being out of doors, in the sun, or climbing. This summer I was fortunate enough to spend a month on the road exploring our countries great national forests and much of the West. I would spend my entire life that way if I could but, alas my bank account won't permit it. I hope to meet you either at the rock-wall or the rental center. Advice: BE HAPPY!

Tamir Arbel
Tamir Arbel is a little lost. Hailing from New York, he somehow stumbled into the state of Michigan. Meandering through to his third year at the university, he’s picked up a passion for bouldering and spends more time at M-Rock than he probably should. He hopes to get out on some real rock in the future, but for now he’s entirely content to tear it up at the school’s wall. Contrary to popular belief, those aren’t balloons attached to his head but birth defects. He’s kinda self-conscious about it and would appreciate if you didn’t mention them or the recent surgery he had to remove them.
Cameron Webley
Cameron is a 3rd year undecided premed from Orchard Lake. His outdoor resume includes hiking to the bottom of the grand canyon, rafting the New River and visiting 9 national parks out west--of which he considers the Grand Tetons to be the most impressive. After months of quibbling about bouldering grades, his peers at the Mrock have given him unofficial title of "The Official Mrock Problem Grader." He plans to go global and make a career out of this if he does not get into the U of M Medical School. Cameron became hooked on rock climbing after taking the UMove Introduction to Technique class with friends. In 18 months he has come full circle and now teaches the very class that originally captivated him. Aside from climbing his hobbies include board games, piano, soccer, video games, recalling the number of times he has seen Jurassic Park and of course watching Bourdain's No Reservations everyday at lunch with his roommates.
Emily Baecher

Emily Baecher
Why, hello! I’m a third year undergrad at U of M in Program in the Environment. My home town is Amherst, Massachusetts. I’ve spent most of my life running around, trying to do as many sports as I possibly can. I currently play for the Michigan club women’s ultimate frisbee team, enjoy running road races and triathlons and recently have become totally jazzed about climbing. I’m feeling a little lukewarm about wallyball- but I’m willing to give it another chance… I love coaching and teaching- I spend most of my summer telling kids how to throw frisbees and now am learning to teach people to climb. It’s a tough life, I know.
